I'm brand new here and came across the website cos it had that word 'Elmet' in it. A few years back I wrote a book on the stone circles and standing stones of this region called "The Old Stones of Elmet" (though gotta be honest I covered a larger area than Elmet was actually thought to be) and wanna find out if there are any other local people with similar interests.
(Nice website by the way)
Cheers - Paul

I have just come back from Brittany where standing stones are in great abundance. One of the ancient world's great mysteries. Many reasons are put forward but any actuality as to their reason for existance, other than as statements of possession and/or power, seem very romantic to me. To go to such lengths as some must have required certainly makes a very serious statement. What are your thoughts?
The obvious ones that come to my mind locally are the Devil's Arrows near Aldborough. Which others have you in your list?
The Book is The Old Stones of Elmet is published by Capall Bann ISBN 186163134-0 , I GOT IT TODAY. It's very interesting I've just had a quick scan through but feel myself getting drawn in. Good stuff Paul, am I allowed to identify you as author!
Thanks v.much for that - another book to add to my collection!
If anyone wishes to add promotions for items / books / displays etc. concerning Elmet or pertinent to period history then please email me, just to clarify the info is pertinent) and I will be happy to include the information on the main website, and/or a link to another website, free of charge.
Anything that adds to public knowledge of Elmet and its history is more than welcome.
