Hello! Just popping in with another rather random and obscure question! Baisically I was wondering what languages the people of Elmet have predominantly spoken throughout it's existence. There is mention of Brythonic Celtic at some point, it is often remarked how the modern yorkshire dialect shares similarities with danish and swedish from viking input. That still leaves the romans, normans etc! Has there ever been a native elmet, or yorkshire language possibly dervived from gaelic, celtic, latin, viking or something else? Cheers for that and sorry for continually throwing these kinds of things at you!
We seem to have one helluva fault with this forum. Some cannot register - lord knows how long that's been going on - some can't post, then can, then can't and I have just found your message because I looked up your membership profile, it doesn't show on my screen.
I have set up another forum with Yahoo. Not as specific as this one in terms of sections etc. Just works from message titles. But at least it seems to wor!
Just go through the main site and click on the usual 'Enter of Forum' link. Then grab a tinny and prepare for 15 minutes of logging on!
But then it seems okay. Look forward to hearing from you. Ask this question again on the new forum. Gotta try and catch up with the other 20+ people who are logged into this one - likely without it working for them!
Please go back to the main site and re-enter the NEW forum. This one is so hit'n'miss that people can't register, can't post or can't see new postings. Over 1000 folk a month are looking in here and so many can't get on board we have had to move. Bummer, the new site isn't great as there are no specific sections - but at least it seems to WORK!
